One of the most outstanding boxes presented at the Formes De Luxe Awards 2014 in Monaco was the envelope box for Veuve Clicquot.
Veuve Clicquot wanted packaging company DS Smith to develop a champagne gift box like an envelope, specially delivered from Madame Clicquot to the customers around the world. The Clicquot Mail encompasses everything from delightful collectible packaging to the heights of contemporary design - all with the twist that makes it "So Clicquot."
Sophisticated finishing treatments are used to highlight the post office stamp and other details, printed on Stora Enso’s Ensocoat board. “We have subtly used selective matt and gloss varnishes, reinforced by the precise embossing of certain parts with a selective gloss varnish and a satin background tint,” tells Cédric Renard, Marketing & Business Development Manager of the Consumer & Display segment at DS Smith.
The box opens by snapping a push-button with the iconic shape of the brand. The position of the button is controlled by means of an anti-rotation system. The button guarantees harmony and tint respect between the different sections and components of the case, including the cardboard, injected plastic button and black relief ink printing on the button.
The idea behind the envelope box came from the history of Veuve Clicquot, which dates back to 1772. Veuve Clicquot house of champagne has preserved her entire correspondence, which gave the inspiration for the Clicquot Mail range.
