Combidome bottle of Natura board

SIG Combibloc awarded for bottle made of Natura board

The Stora Enso global key customer SIG Combibloc has recently developed a new product combining the shape of a bottle with all the benefits of a beverage carton and named it combidome. The carton pack has received several awards, among others the German “iF Design Award” and recently during the Interpack trade fair it received the Worldstar packaging award.

“We are combining the advantages of an aseptic beverage carton such as food quality protection and favourable environmental aspects with a bottle shape. The big opening makes it easy to pour and to drink straight from the package, and it is also easy to grab”, says Hanno Bertling, Global Product Manager for combidome at SIG Combibloc.

The name derives from the dome-like shape and it is today used by two customers for juice products in one litre cartons. It will soon also be launched for 500 ml and 750 ml. “With the combidome package our customers can differentiate their products aimed at the premium segment”, says Hanno Bertling.

“It is a specially developed grade of our Natura liquid packaging board that is used. That is a product we have developed especially for, and together with, SIG Combibloc. It has good printing capabilities, is easy to fold and has excellent performance in high speed filling machines. SIG Combibloc and Stora Enso have a long history together. The development of new and the improvement of existing products has played an important role to develop our business”, says Michael Olsson, Segment Development Manager for liquid packaging at Stora Enso.
