New Generation Plantations platform looks at forestry for the future

The New Generation Plantations (NGP) platform, coordinated by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), is an initiative to learn more about better plantation management and brings together leading plantation companies and some government forest agencies to promote better ways of planning and managing plantations. Stora Enso is one of the NGP Participants.

In its annual Review published today, at the NGP Summit in Cape Town, the platform shares some recent explorations and experiences to make plantations a force of good. In fact, over the coming decades, plantations are set to expand at a rapid rate to meet growing demand for paper, timber and energy. While plantations can be controversial, the NGP concept suggests that well-managed plantations in the right places can take pressure off natural forests, work in harmony with natural ecosystems, and improve the welfare of local communities.
