Redesigning the future with renewable packaging

Stora Enso will invest SEK 75 million (8 MEUR) at Fors Mill in Sweden

Stora Enso will invest SEK 75 million (8 MEUR) in order to strengthen product development at Fors Mill. Fors Mill will be the first mill within Stora Enso with the possibility to produce mechanical pulp from birch. The investment will also improve the work environment and safety.

”It’s very good news that we’ve got this investment. It’s a part of our long term strategy for Fors Mill. The investment shows that Stora Enso believes in Fors Mill”, says Ronny Sjöberg, Manager of Technology and Investments at Fors Mill.

The major part of the investment involves the production of chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP) which provides a more flexible production by also using birch. CTMP pulp is produced mechanically by wood chips being ground to separate the individual fibres in the wood.

”The main benefit of using birch is that the quality of the board is significantly improved as the surface of the board is smoother and whiter, which results in an improved printability. Through this investment we can produce new products and develop our existing ones“, says Ronny Sjöberg.

As part of the investment the working environment is also improved by installing new and safer machine equipment.

Installation work will mainly take place during the maintenance break in December 2014.
